Like most decorators I do have my own favourite brands of paint brushes, however, it is always good to try new products.  Pioneer make a wide range of brushes but I was keen to try out the Summit brushes as I predominantly use water based paints and these brushes are designed primarily for applying these paints.

I have been decorating large stairwells and a lobby area over the last few weeks and have been using 1.5” and 3” Summit brushes on these projects.

Both brushes came supplied in a permanent storage keeper. This is an extremely useful accessory which enables the brushes to be stored safely after cleaning without the worry of the bristles becoming distorted when not in use.

The Summit 3” brush has been used to cut in prior to rolling and also to paint some broad areas.  The paint application with this brush is extremely good.  The synthetic bristles have just the right amount of resistance to spread out the paint evenly without any paint flicking off.  Cutting in with the brush provided consistently straight lines without any effort.  The brush has a stock which is completely filled with synthetic bristles and this means the brush holds a good quantity of paint which makes painting large areas quicker and longer lengths can be cut in with each dip of the brush.  The brush is well balanced and feels good when in use.  The handle is made of beech and feels comfortable and solid.  When it comes to cleaning out the brush after use I was surprised how quickly and easily it was to clean.  Overall I was very impressed with this brush and would say that it was a joy to use.  I did find a few bristles came out when cleaning the first couple of times.

The Summit 1.5” brush was used to apply water based sealers, undercoats and satin finish to the woodwork.  The brush felt well balanced when in use just like the 3” brush.  The synthetic bristles are finer than the ones in my usual brand of brush and gave an exceptionally good finish when applying the finishing paints.  The brush did feel like it had more bristles in it and held a good quantity of paint.  Cutting in was good right from the start and I soon got used to the brush.  A good quantity of paint was held by the brush and this was applied evenly and quickly.  Only one bristle has come out so far.

Both brushes performed extremely well.  I was impressed by their quality of build and how they felt when in use.  They kept their shape well after several weeks of use and I was able to keep them looking good without to much effort.  I think the star of the show was the 3” brush as it performed so well and effortlessly and I find myself looking forward to giving it another work out.

Pioneer is a go-to brand for Adickes. The pro specifically likes Pioneer Spirit Window Rechampir, a round brush ideal for precision painting that comes in 15 to 32mm sizes. He has found that these brushes make cutting-in tops of base boards and other curved surfaces such as raised panel doors easier for homeowners he coaches.

The Summit Precision brush is another Pioneer option that works well for low VOC paints with their faster dry times and less flowing and levelling.

Living and working in the Phoenix metropolitan area which includes the desert, we have extremely dry and hot conditions.  I am repainting a partial interior. I have been using the rechampir for just over a month and it has changed my painting experience!  Yesterday after the call I used the rechampir on an extension pole to cut and it worked like a dream compared to busting a conventional brush!

Finally tried this style and it was great. I have old 2 in brushes that are worn down that I tape that I no longer will need to do after using this.  I ordered 5 more Spirit Window Paint Rechampir brushes. They come in different sizes and will add more value than most brushes to my bottom line.  I just helped a homeowner repaint the taller areas in their home that they had no idea how to tackle.  The Spirit Wood cut in bullnose perfectly along the original tape line without me having to tape.

First, I’ve got to hand it to you – Pioneer really nailed it with the Spirit Renaissance. This is probably the most comfortable commercially-available brush I’ve used.

I’m attaching an image of the Renaissance in action, where it was used to refinish half a dozen large screen doors in Fine Paints of Europe’s Hollandlac Brilliant 98. (The second photo is the finish it produced after just the first coat.)

This has become one of my favorite brushes for that special line. It doesn’t stress me like larger brushes sometimes do and it creates a very nice, sharp feel with minimal effort. I wasn’t sure that I would like the size because I have large hands but it is one of the first brushes that I grab for many big painting jobs. Its small size also makes it great for getting into small or hard to reach spaces when painting furniture.

They are wonderful for tight corner painting. The handle just fits into the crook of my thumb, making them extremely stable. I put them in the washer with a load of towels to get everything out of them. I highly recommend them.

I’m very impressed with the load up and holding quality of the SPIRIT OVAL range of brushes. The bristles are of just the right stiffness and lead to a good even finish with all of the emulsions I have used so far. The bristles also clean up very well, leaving no residue of other colours trapped in the head of the brush, which is one of the biggest problems with other makes. Excellent product and recommended!

I’m an old school painter for 25 years and I can hand on heart recommend these brushes. I would say they are the best bristle brush I’ve used for years.
